The Institute of Oil and Gas – PIB – is a scientific and research unit that, in addition to its basic scientific activities, runs a certification system for the sustainable production of biofuels, biomass fuels and bioliquids. The aim of the System for over 10 years has been to provide entrepreneurs with solutions that allow them to demonstrate compliance with the obligations imposed on them by Directive 2018/2001. Thus, certification ensures that the production of biofuels and bioliquids is carried out with respect for the natural environment, in particular does not cause excessive land exploitation, and biofuels demonstrate a high reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the life cycle compared to the fossil equivalent. Since the scope of the KZR INiG System is global, certification can cover any entity, regardless of the place of business, also from countries outside the European Union. The unique advantage of the KZR INiG System is the wide scope of certification covering several supply chains: liquid biocomponents and bioliquids, solid fuels from biomass, including forest biomass, other wastes and residues or produced from municipal waste, biogas. The system is currently in the process of obtaining decisions for certification of renewable fuels of non-biological origin and recycled carbon fuels. The experience gained in certification will allow other industries, such as RFNBO hydrogen producers, to efficiently implement the legal requirements imposed on them. The Institute’s staff consists of nearly 300 people, most of whom are scientific and research-technical employees, with professional specializations related mainly to the exploration and exploitation, transmission of oil, gas and liquid fuels, hydrogen, biogas, biomatene.
